Chief Signor Omang Idiege, the Ada Bekwarra II, has clarified recent claims suggesting he stated that electricity has been fully restored to the entire Bekwarra Local Government Area after 15 years of blackout.
In an exclusive interview with Nigerian News Angle, the leader explained:
“A week ago, I was visited by some media aides of the Governor at my country home in Gakem, Bekwarra LGA. They said they were in Bekwarra to witness the lighting up of Ijibor, Ugboro, Ukpah, and Afrike 1. They also informed me that the next phase of the project would commence from Ibiaragidi Ward in Abuochiche, extending towards Gakem. As a leader, I commended the Governor for his efforts and urged the team in charge to ensure the project is completed.”
Ada Bekwarra emphasized that his remarks did not confirm that electricity had been restored to all the wards in Bekwarra. He clarified that his comments were solely meant to commend the government’s efforts in addressing the long-standing electricity challenges that have plagued Bekwarra for 15 years.
“At no point did I state that electricity has been restored to all wards in Bekwarra. My focus was on acknowledging the Governor’s steadfast commitment and appreciating the progress made towards resolving this critical issue,” he added.
The respected leader also commended the Governor for ensuring that his administration remains a truly people-first government.
“In just about a year and six months, this administration has made commendable strides in addressing electricity, a major challenge that has burdened the people of Bekwarra for over a decade. This shows genuine commitment to the welfare of our people,” he said.
The Director General of the Cross River State Electrification Agency, Mr. Francis Ekpo, also confirmed that he would be meeting with stakeholders this weekend to discuss the next steps in the electrification project.
Ada Bekwarra urged the public to disregard any misleading reports and to continue supporting the government’s initiatives aimed at resolving the electricity issue in Bekwarra completely.
Signor Omang Idiege reiterated his dedication to the progress and welfare of the Bekwarra people, calling for unity as development takes shape in the community.
