Sowore: Group commends DSS, asks court to commence trial immediately

A group of civil society organization known as the Coalition of Civil Society Groups against terrorism in Nigeria has lauded the Department of State Service DSS, over its handling of an attempt by a group of paid supporters of the detained leader of Revolution Now Movement, Omoyele Sowore, to invade and compromise, the Abuja Headquaters of the agency. It also said while it remain committed to the tenets of democracy and rule of law, the National Security interest of Nigerians must remain paramount and sacrosanct. 

The group in a statement issued in Lagos on Thursday and signed by its Convener , Comrade Odeyemi Oladimeji said the detention and trial of Sowore was not in bad faith but were necessary steps taken in national interest.

The group urged the court to commence the trial of Sowore without delay.
Odeyemi urged Sowore’s counsel and his supporters to prevail on him to defend himself in the court where he is being tried and stop the unnecessary comedy.                                  

The group postulated that Nigerians and the International community must get the issue in proper perspective and we must counter the harmful intentions of those highly partisan individuals that are hell bent on causing unrest in the Country using the Sowore case as a canon folder.

The Nigerian state case against Mr Omoyele Sowore is a case of an attempt to instigate the people against the Constituted authorities through a violent change of government by calling for a revolution.  This is purely a treasonable offence.                                   
The Coalition admonished Nigerians that national interest and security should always surpass personal interest or partisan considerations, if we’re desirous of making progress as a nation.                              
Odeyemi reiterated that,  when an individual like Sowore who is viewed as a high risk to the society , would it be wise to have such an individual in circulation to cause more damages. We must call a spade a spade,  for the sake of national interest,  the likes of Omoyele Sowore must be kept outside circulation till the determination of his case by a court of competent jurisdiction. While also sounding a note of warning to all agent provocateurs and hired machineries who are playing the game of propaganda and blackmails against the Department of State Services and its Director General, that what the DSS and its Director General,  Mr Yusuf Bichi  deserves are accolades and not mudslinging or wicked propaganda from self serving partisan individuals.
